ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ finalist in the Hunter Business Awards
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ has been providing education services to the Hunter region for more than a century, with recent years bringing about significant growth and change.
A not-for-profit community college, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ offers accessible education opportunities to the community, with courses ranging from nationally accredited training, to learning for fun and high school at Alesco Senior College. Its focus is on accessible education for all walks of life.
To have the recent changes and expansion of the service highlighted by a finalist nomination in the Hunter Business Awards made the team incredibly proud, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ executive director Rowan Cox said.
“The recognition of the valuable work community based organisations do to contribute to individuals and the broader community is important. Whether we win or not, this is an achievement ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ will be celebrating,” Rowan said.
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and Alesco Senior College provide a safe space for vulnerable and disadvantaged people from the community to allow them the opportunity to engage in education and learning.
“Many of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds or live with disability,” Rowan said.
“These students gain real life and work ready skills, enabling them to move into employment or further study.”
At Alesco Senior College, students have the opportunity to continue into vocational training and graduate as strong, independent community members, often breaking the cycle of poverty or low educational outcomes in their families.
For ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, a Business Awards win would mean a great deal, not only to staff and students, but to the community. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, formerly known as WEA Hunter (Workers’ Educational Association – Hunter), was established to provide education to blue-collar workers more than 100 years ago.
The Workers’ Educational Association, which originated in England, was introduced in Australia in 1913. In its heyday, it operated in every state except Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
It carries a tradition of excellence and care that the team will proudly continue into the future.
“The recognition by the business community, which we work so closely with, will continue to reinforce our valuable contribution to the Hunter,” Rowan said.
